First things first - We would like to thank all of you who participated in the international day of action against the Mazor Farm. It was very successful and many countries took part and showed their support for the campaign to the Israeli government. So thank you!
Now for the bad news. After few relatively quiet years in terms of repression of the animal rights movement in Israel, last week the movement was hit hard by a violent police reaction to our protest outside the Mazor Farm.
9 Activists were arrested on site, 4 of them were released after a few hours, but 5 of them were imprisoned over the weekend and brought to court on saturday night, they are currently under full house arrest for periods of 5 and 8 days, had to deposit bail, and are not allowed to contact each other - merely for the suspicion of participating in a protest.
Today the police has asked the court to extend the activists' house arrest period, in order to indict them before they are allowed to contact each other. The court did not accept and the house arrest will end today at 4PM Israel time.
On sunday night police raided the home of another activist, and arrested her. She was held overnight and released on house arrest at a court hearing yesterday.
Our lawyers are working round the clock to help the activists, but it seems we are looking at a long and expensive legal procedure, which will possibly drain our already dry fund supply.
We need your help!
At times like this it is especially important to show solidarity and be united in our struggle for the animals. Together we will succeed, we will win, and we will bring about animal liberation!
Any donations toward helping our lawyers deal with the situation and stand up to police brutality and political persecution, will be very welcome.
